Hikes around Walaker Hotell

The western part of Norway is famous for its magnificent hikes and great views. Luster, with its mountants and fjords, is no exception. Placed in Solvorn, in the middle of Luster, Walaker Hotel is an excellent base camp for hikes in close proximity. Ask our staff for suggestions or use www.ut.no, DNT (Norwegian Trekking Association) own webpage to research trips suited for you (modified to work with google translate).

Here are some of our favourites:

Walaker Hotell - Setålen - Solvorsnipa

Setålen is a Norwegian summer shieling, and a lovely tour taking around two to three hours. The trip offers fresh air, walking in pinewoods and great views of Solvorn, the Lusterfjord and Urnes. Starting outside the Hotell and ending in the garden with some refreshments.

Solvorn-nipa is one of the longer walking excursions to take. Starting right outside the hotel, this path will lead you almost straight up 1031 meters. Recommended for people staying two or more nights, and with a good physical health. The trip taking approximately 7-8 hours gives a great view of Solvorn.

Walaker Hotell - Huarplassen

Huarplassen

The track to Huraplassen follows the old church road, up through the village, and into the woods. Quite steep at times, but gives a great feeling of walking in the Norwegian woods.

Walaker Hotell - Molden

Molden has become one of the most popular tracks in Luster. Starting either at sea level or at 500 meters, Molden is approachable for most people accustomed to walking outside. With its height of 1118 meters, Molden gives great views both inwards and outwards of the fjord.

It is often said that Molden is the finest viewpoint in the whole area of Luster.

You will find the start of the path at the parking lot at Krossen. Halfway, you reach Svarthiller, which is an old mountain farm. From Svarthiller, the view towards Urnes on the other side of the fjord, as well as along the fjord, is nothing but wonderful.

From Svarthiller, the path turns 90 degrees and winds up steeply past steep slopes. After a while, the terrain becomes more flat and it is a fairly easy walk towards the peak at Molden, 1,118 metres above sea level. From up here, you have a 360 degree view over most of Luster and beyond.

The hike takes about 2.5 hours.

Luster - Børesteinen

Børesteinen is not for the faint of heart, but crawling your way out to the edge, looking almost straight down 1000 meters to the fjord, is a well deserving reward for your trial.
